Christian counselling in Poole and Bournemouth

Is counselling confidential?

The Oaks is committed to providing a professional, confidential service. Your confidentiality is taken very seriously and will only be broken if your counsellor believes that you or another person/other people are in danger of serious harm, if required by a court of law, or within professional supervision. Professional counsellors are required to undergo regular supervision. However, your counsellor will take care not to give any details which might identify you. The supervisor shares the same commitment to confidentiality. For more detail, please see our privacy policy.

Where does counselling take place?

We use a variety of  rooms across the Poole and Bournemouth area. These are either residential properties or rented from local churches and retreat centres. The venue you are offered will depend on factors, such as convenience of travel and availability of counsellors.

What will it cost?

Please see our cost page for further information about the fees we charge.

How do I know if counselling is right for me?

We offer an initial assessment to determine whether counselling is right for you. (Counselling may not be right at the present time, for example, if you are receiving help, or about to receive help, from another service.) The initial assessment is an exploratory session when you can meet the counsellor and explain and discuss your issues in more detail. At this stage there is no commitment either way to continue with counselling. If you decide you wish to continue with counselling you will be asked to sign a counselling contract with the counsellor.

How long are counselling sessions?

The appointments are 60 minutes long, and take place either weekly or fortnightly.

How long will counselling take?

Typically 5-6 weeks is a good starting point before review. At this point you can discuss with the counsellor whether ongoing counselling is required.

How do I book a counsellor?

For more information, see our Next Steps page.

How long will I have to wait to be seen?

The length of time will vary depending on your availability and that of the counsellors, and your flexibility regarding the venue. Sometimes we are able to accommodate you within a few days. At other times the wait will be longer. You will normally be able to start counselling within one month.
